DeviOS, Education Network 3D and Virtual Business – Virtual FLISOL 2011

DeviOS is a project that seeks to create spaces where institutions all around Latin America to share , create, develop and innovate in virtual worlds. It is the first network under OpenSimulator , a platform for Open Source and Free Software that seeks to speed up the process of e -learning and e-training , with content ready to be used by institutions and companies . Definitely a theme that will be of real interest to many , was a huge pleasure to have such a presence plus they have given us their support during the preparation of the event.

( 15:29:09 ) beastieux : Welcome to Diana Salazar

( 15:29:09 ) beastieux : DEVI SAS Manager – Projects in 3D Virtual Worlds .

( 15:29:24 ) beastieux url: http://devi.com.co/

( 15:29:40 ) beastieux : who will talk about :

( 15:29:41 ) beastieux : deviOS – Network Business Education and Virtual 3D

( 15:30:24 ) devi : Hi , good afternoon to all , as well as Beastieux am Diana Salazar said , nice to be sharing this moment with you

( 15:31:01 ) devi : José accompanies us – in this intervention jor3l

( 15:31:39 ) devi : DEVI is a Colombian company , which for several years and has developed applications for three-dimensional virtual worlds , focusing on education and business.

( 15:32:21 ) devi : I do not know how many of you are linked in some way to multiuser online platforms such as Second Life , Blue Mars , and even with OpenSim

( 15:32:32 ) devi : that I want to talk a little,

( 15:33:14 ) devi : Today virtual worlds in education and business, are spaces that have great potential

( 15:33:53 ) devi : not only because we allow a connection in real time with other users, but rather because they help foster that collaborative learning with which many have dreamed

( 15:34:28 ) devi : Further , are platforms that have their first access freely and can be surprisingly potentiate

( 15:35:13 ) devi : in a virtual world users can have a personality “avatar ” to interact in the space created , generating a sense of immersion quite attractive

( 15:35:40 ) mode ( + or chepecarlos ) by ChanServ

( 15:35:49 ) devi : I say Sexy as virtual worlds games that may seem at first glance, are very well designed ,

( 15:36:12 ) devi : Harnessing this to generate educational interactions and even business would have very good results.

( 15:36:46 ) devi : There are several platforms and virtual worlds …. tell you why talk about this if we are now addressing the issue of free software , you’ll see where we go.

( 15:36:58 ) devi : Second Life is a multi- platform in which you can create all kinds of content, from animation to programming , virtual spaces are payments .

( 15:37:16 ) el_ruso has left the room (quit : Quit: Leaving ) .

( 15:37:17 ) devi : by the way, my avatar in Second Life is Debora Ducrot , in case you have an account and want to talk a little there

( 15:38:03 ) devi : Bluemars meanwhile , is a platform whose graphs are much better than SecondLife and seeks to be a space to create games or simulations , the atmosphere is closed and limited to third party software development

( 15:38:53 ) devi : Jibe3D is the implementation of a virtual world through browsers ( possibly mobile devices) with Unity uses the Unity server technology and is limited to previously developed scenes ( no construction or editing content in real time by the user )

( 15:39:43 ) devi : and finally I would submit to Open Sim , The ‘ Apache ‘ virtual worlds , now seeks to offer the features of SecondLife on a free and open space, dedicated servers for optimal performance and required stable .

( 15:40:59 ) devi : Devi us as we have been doing development on this platform, which is free and its code is implemented collaboratively

( 15:41:58 ) devi : we believe that virtual worlds for education and businesses should be free, free , must be available to users as they have great potential when derealizar activities and simulations that create meaningful learning

( 15:44:16 ) devi : Second Life becomes a power, because even for those who know a little, has an economy in itself, and that makes a premium account and have limited access to some content , with OpenSimulator give way to application deployment within this platform that bring us closer to the future internet , collaborative , meaningful , immersive …

( 15:44:37 ) devi : free !

( 15:45:00 ) devi : We have right now our online platform OpenSimulator

( 15:45:06 ) devi : open to the public ,

( 15:45:14 ) devi : we invite you to register and explore a bit

( 15:45:22 ) devi : registration may do so at

( 15:45:50 ) devi : http://opensim.co/join/

( 15:46:16 ) devi : we seek to connect multiple educational and business projects undertaken in this type of open platforms

( 15:46:25 ) devi : a network that facilitates the exchange of knowledge

( 15:46:29 ) alphaser [~ alphaser @ unaffiliated / alphaser ] has entered the room .

( 15:46:33 ) devi : teachers , students

( 15:46:40 ) devi : virtually, immersive

( 15:47:13 ) eduzgz [~ eduromo@196.Red-83-42-105.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net ] has entered the room .

( 15:48:04 ) devi : I want to leave you with Joseph is the developer of our company , the genius of free applications that are created.

( 15:48:46 ) jor3l : Hi, good afternoon to all

( 15:49:28 ) alphaser has left the room .

( 15:49:30 ) jor3l : Well , as I said I am devi Diana in the development side , which focus on Web development , virtual ( on the platform ) and mobile

( 15:50:57 ) jor3l : much of what we are doing , is free, we seek to encourage individuals, businesses and universities to develop for OpenSim because the possibilities are many but need help so you can experience the best

( 15:51:33 ) jor3l : OpenSim has been developing in recent years and today we can say that racing in Second Life performance , however using OpenSim is complex and that’s one of the problems we try to solve

( 15:51:52 ) jacobsolism [~ jacob@190.34.53.213 ] entered the room.

( 15:52:10 ) jor3l : some applications we have developed seek to offer practical solutions to the use of the platform for users and administrators (teachers , institutions or companies )

( 15:53:02 ) Serafin has left the room (quit : Quit: Leaving ) .

( 15:53:19 ) jor3l for example through the web through an application that helps block the creation of LSL code that gives life to the virtual objects are designed , they can see a demo at http:// www.youtube.com / devimedia # p/u/7/6S248KSjZRc

( 15:53:37 ) chepecarlos has left the room (quit : Read error: Connection reset by peer ) .

( 15:54:06 ) jor3l : this in order that the OpenSim uses need not be expert in areas that do not belong but if it is in the ability to take advantage of what the platform offers

( 15:55:21 ) carlos_ [~ carlos@190.53.171.172 ] has entered the room .

( 15:55:25 ) jor3l : that the web side , in the virtual, we have different applications for 3D content creation , mind maps , ratings boards and the possibilities are endless , it is even possible to connect these virtual objects web platforms and web processes enrich virtual education ( eg moodle )

( 15:57:19 ) jor3l : the mobile part , we want to bring the 3D experience to a device, for the moment , we develop and release the code of an application in J2ME (Java mobile ) that allows entry to OpenSim and Second Life from not very advanced phones, perform basic tasks and communicate in real time with other users of the platform

( 15:59:11 ) jor3l : want to do the same through the web , as there are moving toward virtual worlds , allow the installation of software on one side and use the browser to explore the world in 3D, for it we are initiating research around WebGL and Flash 3D

( 15:59:48 ) jor3l : I forgot to tell you , they can find the information on the J2ME application here: http://devi.com.co/dev/j2me-opensim

( 16:00:30 ) Yesikita [ 529c8883 @ gateway/web/freenode/ip.82.156.136.131 ] entered the room.

( 16:00:56 ) jor3l : good with this I tell you that there is much to do and ultimately virtual worlds will be imposed as an improvement and a solution to education , training and virtual simulation

( 16:01:28 ) gonzalezmd [ bd842a27 @ gateway/web/freenode/ip.189.132.42.39 ] entered the room.

( 16:02:19 ) devi : any concerns about it were attentive. can write to info@foavatars.com follow us on twitter @ foravatars and visit our website for more information www.devi.com.co

( 16:02:49 ) jor3l : we must develop freely helps this to become a reality in the near future and if you are looking to make money there are many ways to monetize what takes place in a virtual world is or not free, so chances are tabi business

( 16:02:51 ) Yukiteru [~ Yukiteru@190.206.115.236 ] has entered the room .

( 16:03:39 ) devi : the mail is info@foravatars.com I was wrong , if you have any questions ?

( 16:04:51 ) carlos_ has left the room (quit : Remote host closed the connection ) .

( 16:04:56 ) beastieux : Thank you Diana and Joseph

( 16:05:16 ) beastieux : If anyone has any questions ?

( 16:05:25 ) beastieux : send it to me by im

( 16:06:10 ) beastieux : what qualities should consider having developers who want to support this project?

( 16:06:19 ) chepecarlos [~ carlos@190.53.171.172 ] has entered the room .

( 16:07:39 ) jor3l : Well, for the development of OpenSim as such , the platform works on C #, so knowledge of the language is essential to develop around the platform you can use any language, to be free you have total control over the services they use OpenSim

( 16:08:16 ) jor3l : inside the platform is developed with LSL , this is similar to Java language and is the same as used in Second Life

( 16:08:58 ) hellhound [~ hellhound@200.48.253.230 ] has entered the room .

( 16:09:19 ) beastieux : There is some form of integration with Second Life, or intends to be a fully detached from second life ?

( 16:09:59 ) hellhound has left the room .

( 16:10:07 ) devi -that in the technical area , I also essential to have commitment to development and who have at least one hour a week to plan for skype with our team in Colombia processes or developments to follow.

( 16:10:40 ) jor3l : The content created in OpenSim can be carried SecondLife and vice versa, but not everything works as they are different technologies , different tools that offer a ‘ free ‘ but is not complete

( 16:11:34 ) chepecarlos has left the room (quit : Remote host closed the connection ) .

( 16:11:52 ) jor3l : But from OpenSim is possible to travel between servers, connect with others around the world in a large virtual space

( 16:13:31 ) devi : In addition to that, we like that through OpenSim are created independent spaces , free from distractions , focused on education or business, according to customer requirements ; more private.

( 16:13:38 ) jor3l : By this I mean that it is possible eg to visit a university network in the U.S. and return to my network without leaving OpenSim

( 16:14:14 ) beastieux : Finally, we believe that is the importance of virtual worlds , this time we have been also doing the event for second life , as well as many other events are held , according to you , where they believe is the importance of virtual worlds

( 16:15:44 ) devi : The importance is depending on the use you want to give to the virtual world

( 16:15:57 ) devi : eg Second Life Community Matters

( 16:16:05 ) devi : Open Sim matter to be free!

( 16:17:06 ) devi : if you use the virtual world to educate , the importance lies in the immersion and meaningful learning that is acquired through various simulations

( 16:17:14 ) devi : e interactions with the environment

( 16:18:04 ) devi : if you use the virtual world for business , the importance lies in the network and in the practical link between distance and time

( 16:18:43 ) devi : It all depends on the approach as we say , and do not forget to also become important in the playful .

( 16:19:44 ) beastieux : I think there is more k questions ?

( 16:20:09 ) beastieux : again thank our speakers

( 16:20:17 ) devi : We leave this video to end http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxsd61QciV4&feature=player_embedded

( 16:20:19 ) devi : thank you very much

( 16:20:27 ) beastieux : thank you very much to you !

Zentyal The Linux SME Server – Virtual FLISOL 2011

Zentyal is a tool to manage all your network services through one application can act as a Gateway, Firewall (UTM ) , Office Server , Infrastructure Server and Communications Server network . In the Virtual Conference FLISOL 2011 , José Antonio Calvo – Product Manager Zentyal Server , speaks Zentyal features , advantages , because it is more convenient than the products of their powers with direct reference to Windows Small Business Server , which provides latest news , etc ; was a fairly technical presentation I’m sure they will interest a lot, especially if you are thinking to implement a comprehensive management system for an SME .

( 16:24:25 ) mode ( + v _Josh_ ) by beastieux

( 16:24:46 ) beastieux : now

( 16:25:02 ) beastieux : I invite our next presenter

( 16:25:06 ) beastieux : who will speak

( 16:25:10 ) beastieux : on Zentyal

( 16:25:18 ) beastieux : http://www.zentyal.com/

( 16:25:23 ) beastieux : is the project website

( 16:25:36 ) beastieux : then I leave the word

( 16:25:56 ) beastieux : José Antonio Calvo

( 16:26:13 ) beastieux : speaking to Zentyal

( 16:26:24 ) _Josh_ Thank beastieux

( 16:26:25 ) beastieux : welcome Joseph!

( 16:26:34 ) _Josh_ : And thank you very much everyone for attending

( 16:26:51 ) _Josh_ : I am Jose Antonio Calvo , Product Manager Zentyal Server

( 16:27:15 ) _Josh_ : I will make a brief introduction, and then quickly move on to the questions

( 16:27:39 ) _Josh_ : because we could be talking at length , but as long we have is better than what we focus to satisfy your curiosities

( 16:28:08 ) _Josh_ : For those not familiar with the project ( formerly known as eBox Platform) , the web is http://www.zentyal.org

( 16:28:31 ) _Josh_ : Or as said beastieux www.zentyal.com also n this is the company that provides professional services around Zentyal ? (Subscriptions , support, etc. . )

( 16:29:00 ) _Josh_ : We may define Zentyal in many ways, but the definition that we like is ” Linux Small Business Server”

( 16:29:18 ) _Josh_ : That is, the Linux Server for Peque and Medium Businesses?

( 16:29:45 ) _Josh_ : The main objective is to enable the management of all network services SME simple , intuitive , and centralized

( 16:30:03 ) _Josh_ : managing it all from one point via a comfortable web interface

( 16:30:58 ) _Josh_ : While there are other products with some overlap certain functions , reference is probably Zentyal Linux servers as SMB , considering the features and completeness of usability

( 16:31:13 ) _Josh_ : But really our ” enemy” is Windows Small Business Server

( 16:31:29 ) Yesikita has left the room (quit : Quit: Page closed) .

( 16:31:43 ) _Josh_ : That logically also drink a large market share

( 16:31:59 ) _Josh_ But Zentyal goes far beyond in terms of functionality

( 16:32:32 ) _Josh_ : By comparison , it would be the equivalent of Windows SBS + ISA Server / Forefront Exchange + + Additional solutions such as VoIP that are not included as standard in Windows Server

( 16:32:54 ) _Josh_ : As imaginareis if we add the cost of all these licenses the total price is extortionate

( 16:33:29 ) _Josh_ : Especially compared to Zentyal is absolutely free ( GPLv2 ) and anyone can download it, try it, adapt it to your needs, etc. . no charge

( 16:34:22 ) _Josh_ : The main features of Zentyal be an : Gateway / UTM Server, Network Infrastructure , Server Office / Groupware , and CommServe

( 16:34:53 ) _Josh_ : Est ? based on Ubuntu Server, although throughout this year and also will have packages for Debian, and in the future we plan to expand am ? s distributions

( 16:35:13 ) _Josh_ And integrates OSS components m s popular for the various network services that need an SME?

( 16:35:52 ) _Josh_ : eg for the default Samba domain n n Windows file and Sharing Center , for Squid Proxy, Zarafa as a substitute for Exchange, etc ?

( 16:36:35 ) _Josh_ : That said, if you have any questions or want to deepen m s on n alg enconcreto topic be ? ? happy to do

( 16:37:53 ) beastieux : we welcome your questions !

( 16:38:58 ) _Josh_ : also comment that in this network ( Freenode ) have IRC channels # and # zentyal zentyal -en ( in English and Spanish ol ? )

( 16:39:20 ) It beastieux : What potential problems do you think you can have when implementing zentyal is extremely easy and fast?

( 16:39:37 ) _Josh_ : Yes

( 16:39:51 ) _Josh_ : The goal has always been speed and simplicity in deployment

( 16:40:01 ) _Josh_ : But in each version tried to improve

( 16:40:41 ) _Josh_ : ? For example in the last n version ( Zentyal 2.0) we we add a few Wizards preconfiguration answering a few questions and I left most of the services running with a default configuration adapted to most of the scenarios

( 16:41:00 ) _Josh_ : For the next stable version ( 2.2), which will come out in September , hopefully still increase and improve your Wizards

( 16:41:09 ) _Josh_ : and the main goal will generally be to improve usability

( 16:41:24 ) _Josh_ : In addition, if instead of making a new installation, we are performing a migration

( 16:41:30 ) _Josh_ : For example from a Windows Server

( 16:41:44 ) _Josh_ : also have a tool called Zentyal AD- Sync

( 16:42:02 ) _Josh_ : To synchronize existing users of Windows to Zentyal , without having to manually adirlos ?

( 16:42:20 ) xangua [~ xangua @ unaffiliated / xangua ] has entered the room .

( 16:42:24 ) _Josh_ : Also, I would like to highlight

( 16:42:36 ) _Josh_ : That Zentyal default settings , such as the Firewall

( 16:42:45 ) _Josh_ : They Safe default

( 16:42:55 ) beastieux : joer3l question: Is possible to bring the Zentyal web administrator or other distributions to use with an installation of Ubuntu?

( 16:42:57 ) _Josh_ : So do not expect the user to enter a rule to deny all inbound tr fico ?

( 16:43:18 ) _Josh_ : but this is denied by default and , then of course you can customize it ( without knowing iptables)

( 16:43:34 ) _Josh_ : Yes, Ubuntu is entirely possible

( 16:43:40 ) _Josh_ : There are two options

( 16:44:02 ) _Josh_ : Or download our official ISO , it really is a Ubuntu installer but including Zentyal automatically for comfort

( 16:44:09 ) _Josh_ : But also it can be installed without problem on an existing ubuntu

( 16:44:19 ) _Josh_ : there just to add our ppa to your / etc / apt / sources.list ?

( 16:44:37 ) _Josh_ : lucid main deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/zentyal/2.0/ubuntu

( 16:44:44 ) _Josh_ : and install it with apt- get install normally

( 16:44:50 ) _Josh_ : Although I have not said , Zentyal is completely modular

( 16:45:00 ) _Josh_ : And therefore we can choose to install modules ( each module is a package )

( 16:45:07 ) _Josh_ : This gives us enough flexibility

( 16:45:30 ) _Josh_ : We can also have multiple Zentyal if the company is fairly large or wants to separate for security

( 16:45:37 ) _Josh_ : for example one Gateway and one as a file server

( 16:45:49 ) _Josh_ : And there is support for architectural master / slave

( 16:46:04 ) _Josh_ : So that we can have a master Zentyal where we manage the LDAP users centrally

( 16:46:15 ) _Josh_ : and changes to all slaves are automatically replicated

( 16:46:32 ) _Josh_ ( each slave Zentyal can offer different services for the same users)

( 16:47:06 ) chepecarlos [~ carlos@190.53.171.172 ] has entered the room .

( 16:47:20 ) _Josh_ : ah, forgiveness n

( 16:47:25 ) _Josh_ : and with respect to other distributions

( 16:47:39 ) _Josh_ : because as I say , over this or we will have to also n Zentyal packages in Debian ?

( 16:48:12 ) _Josh_ : for others to STILL no date , but of course , if there were people interested in contributing , we would be happy to work with them

( 16:48:35 ) _Josh_ : to be free, anyone can download the code and get to work and try to package it for Fedora , OpenSUSE or any other distribution

( 16:49:13 ) _Josh_ : I hope I have clarified your question

( 16:49:17 ) beastieux : While _Josh_ , companies need the support of your system will work well . On the corporate side , which is what is offered in terms of support zentyal ? , Which the company sells itself?

( 16:49:33 ) _Josh_ : good question :)

( 16:49:44 ) _Josh_ : Before I made the comparison with Windows Zentyal

( 16:49:57 ) _Josh_ : Windows licenses are very expensive and offer very little in return

( 16:50:13 ) _Josh_ : Zentyal may also have a cost , but is low compared to what is offered

( 16:50:21 ) _Josh_ : First we subscriptions

( 16:50:33 ) _Josh_ : They allow access to cloud services ( our product Zentyal Cloud)

( 16:50:56 ) _Josh_ : We have a subscription b music that is free (anyone can buy it at 0 cost in https://store.zentyal.com ) ?

( 16:51:16 ) _Josh_ : This subscription allows you to store backups of settings Zentyal Cloud

( 16:51:22 ) _Josh_ : and also includes a small set of basic or alerts?

( 16:51:49 ) _Josh_ : Then there are two commercial subscriptions, according to customer need

( 16:51:56 ) _Josh_ : Professional and Enterprise

( 16:52:51 ) _Josh_ : The Professional is focused on monitoring servers (provides a large set of alerts and generates beautiful PDF reports with useful information of machines )

( 16:53:04 ) _Josh_ : you can also monitor the status of all machines in real time

( 16:53:10 ) _Josh_ : CPU , temperature , etc.

( 16:53:26 ) _Josh_ : eg alerts and we can report when a service has stopped working , whether we’re running out of space, etc.

( 16:53:49 ) _Josh_ : The enterprise subscription includes everything in the Professional and also allows centralized MANAGEMENT n servers ?

( 16:54:16 ) _Josh_ : That is, remotely access the control panel of each of the servers from the same interface of Zentyal Cloud

( 16:54:23 ) _Josh_ : Updates package installations or mass

( 16:54:43 ) _Josh_ : O run any kind of work ( a script in any language ) on a specific machine in a group of machines, or all at once the

( 16:54:54 ) xangua has left the room .

( 16:55:06 ) _Josh_ : Besides the administrator can define their own work , a large body of work are supplied ready for use

( 16:55:19 ) _Josh_ : Like for example, to add a page to the whitelist proxy

( 16:55:47 ) _Josh_ : Although I have said that the main niche Zentyal are SMEs, also used in other environments such as schools and public administration

( 16:56:11 ) _Josh_ : Imagine that you are responsible for managing 20 schools

( 16:56:18 ) _Josh_ : each with Zentyal server

( 16:56:40 ) chepecarlos has left the room (quit : Remote host closed the connection ) .

( 16:56:48 ) _Josh_ : And teachers have wanted to filter in a category of proxy sites but want to allow specific web ( to add an exception ? )

( 16:57:02 ) _Josh_ : Zentyal Cloud could be done easily in the 20 servers at a time , with one click

( 16:57:16 ) _Josh_ : Well, that about subscriptions

( 16:57:29 ) _Josh_ : Then optionally also other services offered

( 16:57:49 ) _Josh_ : Support technician t (with 3 different levels as a function of response time) ?

( 16:58:16 ) _Josh_ : And others such as disaster recovery (backup data in the cloud) and automatic updates for antivirus , IDS rules , etc.

( 16:58:32 ) _Josh_ : All information on these services can be found at www.zentyal.com and https://store.zentyal.com

( 16:58:42 ) _Josh_ : And finally to answer your question

( 16:59:01 ) _Josh_ : We also have a training program

( 16:59:11 ) _Josh_ : With courses and certification exams

( 16:59:24 ) _Josh_ : And also for sale are the official manuals in English and Spanish ol in our store?

( 16:59:51 ) _Josh_ : I hope I have clarified , also any questions concerning these issues can be directed by email to info@zentyal.com
( 16:59:57 ) beastieux : gonzalezmd Question : Interesting the part where you mentioned about Server office , on this point, I have seen some companies work using MS SharePoint . What options you propose ?

( 16:59:58 ) _Josh_ : Or use the contact form on our web

( 17:00:32 ) Lildonkeynet has left the room (quit : Quit: Leaving ) .

( 17:00:44 ) _Josh_ : For office server , apart from n Sharing Center itself that Samba provides file for theme offer Zarafa Groupware

( 17:01:00 ) _Josh_ : In www.zarafa.com you can find more information about it

( 17:01:29 ) _Josh_ : This integrates email (both web as ” normal” for POP / IMAP, and also support Microsoft Active Sync protocol )

( 17:01:37 ) _Josh_ : and management of Contacts and Calendars

( 17:02:47 ) _Josh_ : Also worth noting

( 17:03:03 ) _Josh_ : That as Zentyal no longer be a normal Linux server , specifically Ubuntu

( 17:03:20 ) _Josh_ : is extremely easy to integrate other applications that do not come ” standard ” with Zentyal

( 17:04:17 ) _Josh_ : sean ERP , CRM, etc.

( 17:04:25 ) _Josh_ : or content management

( 17:04:36 ) _Josh_ : and is generally very easy to integrate with LDAP Zentyal

( 17:04:44 ) _Josh_ : sharing users
